Activity 2 : Questions

1. Describe the “ideal” automated class registration system for a college or university. Compare this “ideal” system with what is available at your college or university.

- My Ideal registration system is that I can have the ability to actually manage my information and view my current status as a student, such as my current grades and if possible, class advancements or available subjects to enroll for the current semester. Although there is already one in the school, the problem is that the freedom of the users is still as of the moment, restricted. This will really help out irregular students like myself and I'm sure it can also help other student who feel confident with their abilities.

2. You have decided to open an Internet site to buy and sell used music CD's to other students. Describe the value chain for your new business.

- In opening a business like a CD retailing shop, it is important to always supply the product regularly. A CD shop is a product based business and since it is, you have 2 ways to handle the production. One is to manufacture the CD yourself (Which is impossible for students like us) and the second is to retail sell the CD's. The value chain will differ depending on the demand for the product and as such, there is no need for the business to constantly supply itself especially if the business does not have that much of a high demand. You may also make the transaction process easier like an on-site buying or if possible, a delivery (Not necessarily a good thing to implement in such a simple business such as a simple CD shop). Other than that, the value chain is not entirely that dependable but is easily managed unless you are planning to add a few extra service or a new product.

Value Chain :

Step 1 - Selling method (Either retail or wholesale)

Retail

If you are using retail then you should take note that the customers might not even be interested on your product and just go directly to the manufacturers since it is undeniable cheaper.

Wholesale

If you are going for wholesale then you should assure that you have enough to finance your business or sponsors. If not then you will have no choice but to create a CD manufacturing company or invest in one to sell your desired goods.

Step 2 - Warehousing

If you're starting small then a small warehouse is the only thing you need if not, none at all, since CD's are easily stored from simple appliances such as boxes or containers. Also take note of the demand, Its good to prepare extra supply but it is never good to hoard in supply especially if the demand is really low.

Step 3 - Transactions

Since the business is just a simple CD shop, then there is no need for complexities. Onsite transactions would be enough.

3. Discuss the potential use of virtual reality to enhance the learning experience for new automobile drivers. How might such a system operate? What are the benefits and potential drawbacks of such a system?

- Virtual reality is commonly used in today's modern age of technology, mostly on the field of education. A virtual reality system operates by simulating real life work such as surgery or a war tactics with the use of technology rather than implementing it in real life.

It can be a good way to learn especially if it involves safety such as driving or piloting a plane and because of this, learners using this technology can easily undergo trial and error process without the worry of accidents or hassles on equipment reassembly. Using a simulator though, is different from the real hands on experience, and this is where the disadvantage come in. The user might be slightly rattled by experiencing the real thing, which in some cases, lead to accidents.
